I know… I know… I should have posted days ago. But the holidays are here! And I am in Oregon visiting family! Having martini lunches and wine tasting! Visiting my Grandma and Mama and Aunts and Uncles… So, I will get right to it, so I can get back to enjoying my last few days!
Christmas was wonderful… For me it is all about the family and being together- which this year I got in a big way. Being on a tight budget I decided to not spend anything- and just made a few gifts for all. The travel (gas is NOT cheap!) was our gift…
For Christmas Eve we hopped on over to my Aunt Candy and Uncle Bills house… champagne and snacks abounded. And then back to my moms (where we are staying) for a lovely evening meal. Christmas morning we made brunch- popovers were on the menu which is one of our all time faves… and then to Uncle Ray and Aunt Annas for a prime rib Christmas dinner. Ahhh- the food!~ The fun!
My girls got all dolled up. I had made 2 of them dresses- and one wore a vintage dress we purchased on Ebay a while back. So- here they are in all their Holiday Splendor! (Juliette is NOT going to be happy- she hated her dress. 😦 )
Holly wanted a green dress this year. I used Simplicity 2305- a Cynthia Rowley design. I love the sleeves… I love the crepe backed satin I used… I didn’t love the fit of the bodice. Holly is difficult to fit- she is sooo tiny. I am thinking of trying a petite pattern on her. The bodice is a little loose but she is happy and I am happy! I think if I do this again I will make the neckline a little less deep.
And Juliette’s dress- The ultimate fail- although when I get home I am going to try and save it. I waited until the last minute with this one. The fabric is GORGEOUS and one I thought would go well with her coloring. It is a gold and creme lame. I picked a simple pattern BUT it is home and I am here so I will have to add it later! What this dress REALLY needs is some fitting and a GOOD ironing on a low temp. The seams are pulling. SO – although I would only like to share my magnificent triumphs- I will share this dismal failure.
Last but not least- here is Eleena’s Holiday finery. Kerrielee used a white cotton and although it is difficult to see there is red tulle peeking out.
Next year I get some holiday finery!! Selfish sewing in 2013!
Hope you all had a wonderful holiday! I am looking forward to getting home and getting my “sew on.”
PS… Oh WINNER WINNER! Darlene is our winner! Please contact me with your mailing address and I will mail your lovely piece of chiffon. (firstname.lastname@example.org) And thank you all for commenting and liking us on FB!)
I am not sure WHAT the commercial is- but I need to pause for a few days. I am heading up to Oregon later tonight- a 15 to 16 hour drive from San Diego. I am a little nervous. A big old winter storm hit and there are weather advisory’s through the pass. First 12 hours will be a piece of cake but the last few when I cross over the Shasta area and Siskiyou Mountains, well, lets just say driving in snow does not thrill me. I don’t DO snow… I don’t DO cold as a matter of fact! Brrrrrrrr….
I am excited to be going to Oregon with my girls though. My mom, grandma, cousins, aunts and uncles will be there. It will be a nice way to spend Christmas. BUT, the drive… Sigh, Ah well.. I keep hoping this will not be us:
I plan on taking pictures of the girls in their Christmas dresses and will blog about those- (I am going to make them go stand in the snow! Haha) And we will be announcing our giveaway for reaching 1000 views. (Any day now!)
I will see you in a few days! And have a great weekend.
Me and the girls- I have to say it is really great to be able to sew for all of us. For one, they are all different and like different styles, which lets me be creative in a lot of different ways! Of course, making 4 dresses for a holiday keeps me darn busy! But I love that I get to do different styles. I also love that I have a more adventurous daughter and for her I can make ANYTHING and she will wear it! 🙂
Below is a pic of my son and daughters in their Christmas finery. I let them choose the style. And I mixed up the holiday colors. When they were little I often made them matching dresses. But alas, they have outgrown that and I need to be more creative! I am fine with it though! Sewing 3 different dresses is a lot more exciting than sewing one dress 3 times!
I have various projects I am jumping around to and from. I am feeling a little ADD in the sewing department right now! You should see my cutting table! But, I will be sewing on Thanksgiving Day and hope to get a thing or 2 actually finished. And Friday- we are having an all day sewing day. (My cousin Kerrielee and Sew Exhausted partner- and her mama) That is when we make a few crock pot meals, a few pots of coffee, and sew sew sew til we can’t sew no mo. 😀
Tomorrow I will posting Holly’s finished dress. I have HOPEFULLY a brilliant idea for a belt. I was just so not happy with the dress- and I have discovered fabric stores no longer sell belt making kits. And the buckle choices were cruddy. So, after much thought I THINK I have a plan! So… I will see you tomorrow! Tune in for pics of BOTH completed dresses this week. Happy sewing! xoxox -L
